Your Office Copier May Hold Years Worth of Personal Data

COPYIt’s true! Did you know the average office copier contains a large hard drive that can store up to 100,000 pages of personal or office-related information? Every time you make a copy, you are essentially storing that information onto the copy machine’s internal hard drive. Depending on what you are copying, this information could contain bank records, social security information, personal addresses, phone numbers, and much more. You don’t want this information falling into the wrong hands, which is why it is extremely important to erase these saved documents or prevent them from saving to your office copiers.

With most copy machines, you can easily remove the internal hard drive and free up some space by erasing all of the unnecessary files. You may also want to delete any information that others will take advantage of, such as confidential reports, personal identification, and bank statements.

In order to prevent this information from saving to your machine in the first place, you can easily install a security device at the time of purchase, These usually cost around $400-$500 and will erase your data within seconds of any copy you make. Installing security devices on your color copy machines will help you feel more at ease when copying any confidential or personal documents.

Color Copiers for the Workplace and 3-D Printers for the Future!

3D Movie GlassesWhile office copy machines and printers are great for use around the workplace, some of you may not be too familiar with the future of 3-D printers. No, we’re not talking about printing out a piece of paper with a squiggly 3-D image on it. You don’t need a plastic pair of silly glasses in order to view the 3-D models that these printers can create.

3-D printing technology has been around for years now. Originating in laboratories and manufacturing plants, this technology is finally becoming more affordable to the common public. These 3-D printers can print full models of almost anything imaginable, including absolute, physical objects. Instead of using ink and paper, these printers use plastic materials to piece together their images. Imagine printing out a full scale bicycle or musical instrument. This isn’t just science fiction anymore! Advancements in 3-D printing technology have recently been put to use on assembly lines in order to replace the need for factory workers. These machines can print more efficiently than any human counterpart. Sounds a little scary, right?

While we’re still a few decades away from 3-D printers becoming common in the workplace, it’s important to keep an eye on this advancing technology. Until then, keep your office up to speed with our full line of high speed scanners, color copiers, office shredders, and more!

Become Eco-Friendly with Your New Office Copier

sd350_digital_duplicatorYes, you read that title correctly. Although copiers are often thought of as paper-wasting office machines, World Trade Copiers offer multifunctional color copiers which help businesses to become more eco-friendly. How can this be possible when office copiers use up so much paper? Simple, with a digital connection through the office network.

Often times these multifunctional digital copiers contain scanning and faxing capabilities, which greatly reduce the use of paper in the workplace. Furthermore, new toners, ink, and special paper are being developed for copy machines, which will make office documents sustainable for the environment. Essentially, this special paper is made to fade its ink after a certain amount of time, therefore making the paper reusable for the office.

Instead of purchasing multiple scanners, printers, fax machines, and shredders for the workplace, owning a multifuncional office copier will greatly reduce energy flow and free up open space throughout the building. Additionally, many of these copiers now feature sleep modes, allowing them to power off when not in use.

Although an office copier seems like it would do more harm than good for the environment, new technology is advancing to reduce the consumption of energy and paper waste. Look into a new eco-friendly office copier for your workplace today!

The Office Copier May Be Older Than Your Dad

Birthday Cake

Well, that is if your dad is over 53 years old. Yeah, that’s right; the office copier recently passed its 50th birthday with the machine first being invented in 1960. It is amazing how much we take this piece of machinery for granted. Did any of you even celebrate the copier’s birthday? Well, we did, and we would like to share a bit of history of everyone’s favorite machine.

The first black & white copier was introduced in 1960, weighing a total of 648 pounds. The copier was the size of two washing machines, filling up a large majority of the office. Also, did we mention that it would often catch on fire? Employees would often get frustrated with these machines, as they would be consistently unreliable. A famous scene in the movie Office Space depicts a group of employees taking an office copier into a field and smashing it to pieces with a bat.

We have come a long way since the days of the over sized black & white copier. Most workplaces today have at least a color copier, a high speed scanner, and a color printer. Technology has clearly advanced since 1960, with the introduction of the HP Color Laserjet Copier. If you want to get something for your office that may be a bit smaller than two washing machines, take a look on our website. Until then, wish the copier a happy half-century birthday!

Xerography: How Copy Machines Function

copy machinesCopy machines have come a long way since their early beginnings at the end of the 18th century. What we now consider to be copy machines have their roots in experiments carried out by Chester Carlson in the late 1930s. He discovered a process, which was later refined and dubbed “xerography.” The main constituent stages in the process are highlighted below:

  1. Charging: The cylindrical drum is electrostatically charged by a high voltage wire called a corona wire or charge roller. This drum has a coating of photoconductive material.
  2. Exposure: A bright lamp illuminates the original document, and the white areas of the original document reflect the light onto the surface of the photoconductive drum. Certain areas of the drum become conductive, while others remain negatively charged, and the result is a latent electrical image on the surface of the drum.
  3. Developing: The toner is positively charged. As the toner is applied to the drum, it is attracted and sticks to the negatively charged areas.
  4. Transfer: The resultant toner image on the surface of the drum is transferred in from the drum onto a piece of paper with a higher negative charge than the drum.
  5. Fusing: The toner is melted and bonded to the paper using heat and pressure rollers.

Office Copiers as Artistic Media?

When running copies of a contract in the office, the potential of office copiers as artistic media may not be the first thing on your mind, but photocopying machines have played at least a minor role in art’s long and varied history.

Also called electrostatic art and copy art, Xerox art is created by putting objects on the glass, or image area, of copy machines and taking a copy of the object in order to produce a black-and-white or color reproduction. If the object to be copied is not flat, or in the case where the cover does not totally cover the object, the image is distorted in some way. The curvature of the object, the amount of light that reaches the image surface, the distance of the cover from the glass all affect the final image, with resulting images often exhibiting a surreal or eerie aesthetic.

The Xerox art movement was particularly prominent in the San Francisco Bay Area, with the Color Xerox art scene starting in 1978 and going on to include postcard stores, gallery exhibits, and Barbara Cushman’s Color Xerox calendar. Two of the practice’s foremost proponents include Jan Hathaway and Carol Heifatz. If your curiosity has been piqued, there are still exhibits to be found in New York and Los Angeles.

Color Copiers Essential for Events

If you are in the business of public relations or event management, then must know the vital importance of press materials. From save-the-dates, formal invites and press releases, to event flyers, posters and brochures, a well-designed press material combining compelling copy and eye-catching graphics is absolutely essential whether you are looking to impress an exclusive guest list or reaching out to ensure you have an impressive audience for opening night.

As we all know, an image is worth a thousand words and while black and white is a style suitable for certain occasions, color is the best option for creating a lasting buzz. Why not save the hassle of enlisting outside help for printing your press materials and invest in color copiers? Not only will this streamline your business logistics (saving time to-ing and fro-ing between copy centers and the office), but it will also allow you to have complete control over the production of your press materials. From Xerox to HP, we carry the best range of copiers in NY that runs the gamut from affordable to state-of-the-art.

And for original graphics and illustrations, you are bound to need one of our top quality high speed scanners, which will see that your production of signature materials goes speedier than ever before.
